When I was in college I found my best friend dead in our dorm room. While my friends kept me going through the depression that followed, there was one moment however on the day after she passed that I had to go back into our dorm room to get clothes and show investigators what possessions were hers. I had a break down and was unable to move once I got to the place where I found her. While I could never pick him out of a crowd, tell you what his name was or even recognize the sound of his voice; one police officer reached out to me asking me to name so that I didn’t have to touch anything and then let me sob into his hard plastic walkie talkie mouthpiece for 40 minutes when I had finished. He saved my life that day, he was the first person that let me implode and I am forever grateful for his strength in being able to hold me as a stranger like I was his own daughter.
